Swimming

Your period shouldnโ€™t keep you out of the pool. ๐ŸŠ

Having your period does not mean you have to miss swimming. This section helps you understand products that work in water, what to do about leaks, how to handle changing rooms, and when to ask for help.

Simple rule

You can swim on your period.

Swimming during a period is generally safe when you feel well enough and use a product suitable for water. You do not need to use a tampon or menstrual cup just because you swim.

Ask Luma

Got a swimming-and-period question?

Ask things like โ€œWhat can I wear in the pool?โ€, โ€œWhat if I leak?โ€ or โ€œHow do I tell my coach?โ€

Luma cannot diagnose or replace a trusted adult, GP or healthcare professional.

Talking to a trusted adult

You can also tell a parent, carer, teacher or coach. A short sentence is enough. You do not have to explain everything.

When should I ask for help? This information helps you learn and prepare. It does not diagnose or replace advice from a doctor, nurse or trusted adult. If you have severe pain, are bleeding very heavily, feel faint, dizzy or very unwell, tell a trusted adult or get medical help straight away.
